Classic car similar to King’s beloved Aston Martin for sale
A classic car similar to King Charles’ beloved vintage Aston Martin is up for auction. The 1970 Aston Martin DB6 Mk2 Volante echoes the motor the Queen gifted to Prince Charles on his 21st birthday.
That car was also used by Prince William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, on the evening of their wedding. The sale of the Mk2, once owned by a sheikh, is set to take place just after the King’s coronation.
The motor has a princely estimate of between £600,000 – £700,000 and interestingly, in tune with King Charles’ eco-credentials, this Aston was previously fitted with an electric-powered engine as a showcase of the company’s environmental development.
Auctioneers Silverstone Auctions explain: “One of only 38, second-generation DB6 Volantes like the royal car, the impeccable car was also previously owned by His Highness Sheikh Nasser Mohammed Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah former Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait. It remained in the Kuwaiti Collection, lightly used, until 2018 when the ‘Works’ were able to buy it back and return it to (Aston Martin) Newport Pagnell.”
The car is now being sold with its original petrol engine and a current mileage of just under 54,000. Silverstone Auctions will hold the sale on May 20 at the Supercar Fest at Sywell Aerodrome near Northampton.
The coronation of King Charles will take place on Saturday, May 6 at Westminster Abbey. It will be the first coronation of a British monarch in the 21st century and the 40th to be held at Westminster Abbey since 1066.
