Climate emergency plan ‘seems to miss some key facts’

However, recent election literature from my ‘local Conservatives’, lauding their ‘plan’ re the climate emergency, seems to miss some key facts.•    They declared a climate emergency four years ago, but only one of the measures mentioned has actually been implemented;•    Planting saplings is great, but won’t make a significant difference to carbon emissions until the 2030s;•    Switching bin lorries from diesel to vegetable oil is also good, except that if all diesel owners did that then we would run out of room to grow food;•    The solar panels they mention (on one building ?) are being paid for by central government.

They also failed to back a new climate and ecological emergency bill (ignoring massive support from local residents who protested outside Romsey’s Crosfield Hall), and rejected the suggestion of a £1m ring fenced budget for climate actions, despite sitting on over £30m in reserves.

Whatever else my ‘local Conservatives’ are – they are not friends of the earth.
