Crashes on both sides of M6 leave two hurt and drivers facing hour …
A car was left on its roof following a crash on the M6 – and minutes later, there was another smash on the opposite carriageway. The two collisions caused travel chaos on the busy motorway, with motorists facing hour-long delays.
Two people are believed to have been hurt in the crashes, which took place between J10 ( Walsall[1] ) and J10a (M54) just before noon today (Saturday, April 22). The extent of their injuries is not yet clear.
The first crash involved two cars – a blue vehicle that overturned and a grey Honda with severe rear end damage on the southbound side. Firefighters were alerted to the crash at 11.48am and sent two crews to the scene – only to receive another call at 11.51am reporting a second collision on the northbound carriageway, involving two cars and a van.
A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said a casualty from the southbound crash was “left in the care of paramedics” after being “assisted from the vehicle”, while one person went to hospital following the northbound incident.
Just before 1pm, National Highways said the northbound collision had been ‘cleared to the hard shoulder’ and all lanes reopened. However motorists were warned there was still delays of up to 60 minutes and 6.5 miles of congestion.
Two lanes are still believed to be closed on the southbound side, with warnings of long delays, three-mile queues on the approach and heavy congestion on the M54 eastbound.
