There are long traffic delays due to the closure of the M6 northbound between J12 (Cannock) and J13 (Stafford)

Images from officials have shown the devastating impact an M6 crash had on a lorry that has been smashed to pieces. The white lorry was involved in a crash on the M6 northbound between junctions 12 and 13 today, Sunday, April 16 – and there are huge delays for motorists.

Images released by National Highways show the lorry was ripped apart by the collision. The air ambulance was called to the scene earlier and landed on the motorway.

There is a large 999 presence in the area. Cars are being turned around from the rear of the crash site as road officials work to unblock the long queues there that have hit Sunday drivers.

There have been delays of up to an hour on the route. In addition, there are diversions in place for motorists to avoid the area.

National Highways said this afternoon: “There’s very long delays on approach to the closure and on the diversion route. Please allow extra time for your journey this afternoon.”

Their latest tweet states: “Traffic caught within the closure of the M6 northbound between J12 (Cannock) and J13 (Stafford) is now passing the scene of the incident via lane 4. Thanks for your patience if you have been held up. There’s a 30 minute delay approaching the closure at J12.”
