Diversion route in place following four-vehicle A36 crash
The A36 remains closed this morning (Sunday, April 16) as investigations continue into a serious four-vehicle collision. The crash on Brassknocker Hill outside of Bath[1] occurred after 10pm on Saturday evening (April 15).
A number of police officers, ambulances and an air ambulance landed in the area as Avon and Somerset Police closed the route in both directions. The route remains shut between the junctions for B3108 for Bradford-on-Avon turn-off and Ferry Lane for Claverton.
As a result, a diversion route is in place via local routes between the A4 and the A366 north of Beckington. Police officers remain at the scene investigating the circumstances of the serious collision.
It is not clear when the route will reopen and motorists are advised to use via local routes between the A4 and the A366 north of Beckington as diversion routes. The road closure is affecting traffic towards Bath but also Frome[3] and surrounding villages.
An update from traffic monitoring service Inrix reads: “A36 Warminster Road in both directions closed due to accident investigation work from B3108 (Bradford-on-Avon turn-off) to Ferry Lane (Claverton).
“Following a serious accident just after 22:00 last night (Saturday) involving four cars which the air ambulance attended, east of the city, affecting traffic heading to and from Frome. Diversion – via local routes between the A4 and the A366 north of Beckington.”
National Highways adds: “The A36 in Somerset is closed in both directions between the A366 (Farleigh Hungerford) and the A4 (Bath) due to a serious, multi-vehicle collision. Emergency services including Avon & Somerset Police are on scene. Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance have also been in attendance.
“Traffic is being diverted via local routes. If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
