Driver climbs out of fireball lorry after horror crash shuts M6 for 16 …

A lorry driver involved in a crash which closed a section of the M6 for 16 hours has been taken to hospital. Police closed the M6 between junction 12 for Cannock and junction 13 for Stafford South from 11.30am on Sunday, April 16 after the collision between the lorry and a car.

The motorway was finally reopened at 3am on Monday morning. It comes as one lane of the northbound carriageway remains closed this afternoon.

StokeonTrentLive has approached Staffordshire Police[1] for a statement regarding yesterday’s traffic gridlock which was made worse by the lorry bursting into flames. But West Midlands Ambulance Service[2] has confirmed it sent two ambulances, an air ambulance and two paramedic officers to the crash scene.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the M6 northbound. Crews discovered a lorry had been involved in a collision and the driver, a man, was already out of the vehicle. Ambulance staff treated the patient for injuries not believed to be serious before conveying him by land ambulance to New Cross Hospital for further treatment.”

Any witnesses to the collision should call the police on 101.
