Dunmow High Street reopens after steam engine crashes into house

A crash involving a steam engine closed a main road in Great Dunmow on Friday (April 21) night. The incident was first reported at around 6.48pm in the evening.

The B1008 Market Place was closed in both directions following the crash. The closure was in place from Angel Lane to Star Lane. The road was reopened at around 9am after the steam engine was removed.

Photos shared with EssexLive showed the steam engine having crashed into a building on the right side of the road between the junctions of North Street and Star Lane. The large green vehicle – which has a ‘long vehicle’ warning on it’ had collided with the front corner of a building although no major damage appears to have been caused to the property.

A number of people stood around looking at the scene in the aftermath ahead of the road being reopened several hours later on April 22. Essex Police confirmed that there were no reported injuries.
