‘Erratic’ boy-driver crashes into police vehicle and runs off

An out-of-control car crashed into a police vehicle in Spring Bank today.

The teenage driver then tried to run away, but was caught after a short chase. A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of a substantial number of offences, including dangerous driving, car theft, driving without a licence and burglary.

Three other teenagers were also arrested. All four were in custody today (Wednesday).

The incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Officers spotted the car “driving erratically” at around 3.30am, before crashing into and damaging the police vehicle.

In a statement, Humberside Police[2] said: “Four people are currently in our custody following a fail to stop in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday April 5) on Spring Bank, Hull. At around 3.30am, eagle-eyed officers spotted a car reportedly driving erratically before colliding into a police vehicle, causing damage.

“In an attempt to evade officers, the driver of the vehicle fled the area and, following a short pursuit, officers stopped the vehicle and four people were arrested. A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, theft of a motor vehicle, driving a motor vehicle dangerously, driving whilst unfit through drugs, without a licence, without insurance and burglary.

“A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, vehicle damage and theft of a motor vehicle. A 16-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, vehicle damage and possession of Class B drugs.

“A 17-year old girl was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and burglary. All four people remain in police custody whilst we continue with our enquiries.

“Officers investigating the incident are appealing for witnesses or for anyone with dashcam footage and where in the area at the time of the incident to contact us on 101, quoting log 59 of 5 April.”
