Flood warnings and alerts across Surrey following heavy rain

A number of flood warnings and flood alerts are in force across Surrey following heavy rain on Friday night. Roads were closed due to flooding – including the M25[1] and A3 – although these had reopened by Saturday morning (April 1).

Flood warnings – which mean flooding is expected and people should act now – are in place for two waterways. The Chertsey[2] Bourne at Thorpe Green including Green Road and Trumps Green and River Mole at Dorking[3] and Mickleham.

A number of flood alerts, which mean flooding is possible and that people should be prepared, are also in force across the county. As of 8.30am on Saturday, these are:

  • River Blackwater including Badshot Lea, Aldershot, Farnborough, Camberley[4], Sandhurst, Eversley, Bramshill and Swallowfield, and the Cove Brook at Farnborough and Cove
  • Upper River Wey including Alton, Farnham[5], Bordon, Frensham, Tilford, Godalming[6], Guildford[7] and Peasmarsh
  • Windle Brook and Hale, Mill and Addlestone[8] Bournes including Bagshot, Windlesham, Lightwater, Chobham[9], West End, Emmetts Mill, Woodham and Addlestone
  • River Thames from Shepperton to West and East Molesey including Hamm Court, Walton-on-Thames and Sunbury[10][11][12]
  • River Hogsmill area from Ewell to Kingston upon Thames, including the Surbiton Stream in Surbiton and the Green Lane Stream between Ewell and Epsom[13][14][15]
  • Redhill[16] Brook including Redhill, Merstham and South Nutfield and Salfords Stream including Salfords

The latest Met Office weather forecast for South East England on Saturday states: “Cloudy with patchy light rain or drizzle at first. Some locally heavier bursts possible in the west but turning drier here for a time. Light rain and drizzle becoming more extensive in the east later. A brisk, cool breeze. Maximum temperature 11 °C.”
