Frank Skinner’s Former Co-host Gareth Richards Fighting For Life …
Broadcaster Frank Skinner broke down in tears as he announced on his radio show that his former co-host[1] Gareth Richards had been involved in a serious car accident.
Skinner told Absolute Radio listeners that Richards was fighting for his life after being injured in a road accident earlier in the week. Breaking down while discussing the incident, Skinner said: “Gareth was in a very big road accident this week and it’s not looking great for Gareth.
The crash
Richards was reportedly involved in a serious collision near Heathrow airport on the M25. The accident involved a lorry and two other cars and led to the motorway being closed for 10 hours. A man was cut free from his vehicle and taken to a major trauma centre. Police said that the driver of the car’s injuries “have been assessed as life-threatening”.
Richards’ connection to Skinner
Richards co-presented Skinner’s Absolute Radio show alongside Skinner and Emily Dean when it first launched in 2009. He and Skinner became close friends as a result, and Richards supported Skinner on tour. Skinner called Richards “a fantastic bloke” on the show and asked listeners to “give one to Gareth this week” in their prayers.
Richards’ brother an Oscar winner
Joshua James Richards, Gareth Richards’ brother, won an Oscar and Bafta for Nomadland in 2021. He is in a relationship with director Chloé Zhao.
The identity of the other people involved in the crash is not known. The Independent has contacted Absolute Radio for comment.
