Gridlock on busy road as buses get stuck

Two National Express Coventry[1] buses caused traffic to come to a standstill this morning (April 21) on Sandy Lane in Radford[2] after scraping by each other, leaving no gap to pass through either side. The buses were stuck for 20 minutes before drivers managed to safely manoeuvre them past each other.

National Express Coventry has apologised for the disruption and explained the buses got caught while trying to pass each other on a narrow stretch of road.

People took to social media to vent their frustration, with several people saying the incident made them late.

Writing on the ‘We Love Radford’ Facebook page about the incident, Sophia Qadus said: “This was horrendous, traffic stuck on both ends and the kids got late for school. Bosworth Rena added: “Has this cleared now? I truly hope so.”

National Express Coventry[3] released a statement in which a spokesperson said: “Two buses were caught on a narrow stretch of Sandy Lane this morning. To prevent contact between vehicles our drivers sought assistance from the depot and remained stationary for approximately 20 minutes.”

“The buses were safely manoeuvred with assistance from depot colleagues. We apologise for any disruption this may have caused.”
