Laredo’s Mi Pastel Favorito hit by alleged drunk driver

An alleged drunk driver has been arrested for crashing his vehicle into a local cake shop.

Rolando Navarro was arrested on Sunday and charged with DWI Refusal (C/B). The 24-year-old faces a $5,000 bond.

LPD said the incident happened at 2:50 a.m.

Surveillance video shows a Chevy truck swerve and crash into the establishment, located at 4201 McPherson Road.

The cake shop, Mi Pastel Favorito, got the brunt of the damage. It is part of a building housing three establishments including Gabriela Mendoza Garcia Ballet Floklorico and Metro by T-Mobile.

LPD said no major injuries were reported.

In an announcement on social media, Mi Pastel Favorito expressed disappointment that it would have to suspend activities following the damages.

“With profound sadness we want to communicate that overnight our bakery suffered damages caused by an accident,” said Mi Pastel Favorito in a translated statement. “As of now we will be suspending indefinitely our activities. We’re sorry we’re not able to be a part of your events. To us our clients are the most important, and we will communicate as soon as possible to continue making your orders. Thank you for your understanding.”
