A 49-year-old man has been released on police bail following arrest after failing to stop at a security checkpoint in Co Antrim to facilitate US President Joe Biden’s journey into Belfast.

The checkpoint was erected by police on the Ballyrobin Road in Crumlin, ahead of Joe Biden’s presidential cavalcade traveling into the city following his arrival at Belfast International Airport on Tuesday evening.

A PSNI spokesperson said the 49-year-old was driving a lorry that was spotted driving on the wrong side of the road shortly before 9.50pm on Tuesday.

“Officers safely stopped the vehicle and the driver was instructed to dismount and hand over his keys,” the spokesperson said, adding that the man has since been bailed pending further enquiries.
