M20 closed due to crash and fuel spillage – live updates

A crash brought traffic to a standstill on the M20[1] earlier this morning (April 14). The collision, involving multiple vehicles, was first reported at around 9am and occurred on the eastbound carriageway between Junction 4 for West Malling and Junction 5 for Aylesford.
It has been reported that the crash involved three vehicles. Following the incident, one man was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for further treatment after being assessed and treated at the scene.
The eastbound carriageway of the M20 was closed between Junction 4 and 5 while the incident was handled. All traffic was held in the area, with motorists facing hefty congestion and delays as a result before all lanes re-opened shortly after 10am.
A Kent Police spokesperson said: "This was a three vehicle collision reported at 8.55am on the coastbound M20 at the slip for junction 4. Officers and ambulance crews attended and the road was closed. A man has been taken to a local hospital."
An early update from traffic monitoring site Inrix stated: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident, a car and two lorries involved on M20 coastbound at J4 A228 Castle Way (Leybourne/Snodland)."
