M42 hit with delays after two-car crash

Drivers faced huge delays this afternoon after a two-car crash on the M42. The smash happened near Tamworth[1], between J10 and 11, at around 3.58pm and forced several lanes to close.

An ambulance rushed to the scene following the collision. Paramedics discovered a van driver who had sustained non-serious injuries.

He was later taken to Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield[2] for further assessment.

The crash, between the van and a car, caused around seven miles of congestion, according to traffic website Inrix. All lanes previously closed have reopened.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service[4] spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of a collision between a car and a van between junctions 10 and 11 of the M42 at 3.58pm.

“One ambulance attended the scene. On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was the driver of the van.

“He was treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to Good Hope Hospital for further assessment.”

An earlier Inrix update read: “M42, Staffordshire, stop-start traffic for seven miles due to earlier accident involving two cars after J10 (Tamworth). Congestion to J9 (Coleshill). All lanes have been reopened.”
