M62: Investigation after two ‘flee’ fatal crash scene
The crash, between a grey Mercedes and a silver Skoda Fabia, happened on the M62 near Warrington at around 3.45am on Saturday morning.
The 61-year-old Skoda driver, from the Wirral area, was taken to hospital with injuries that proved to be fatal, while police have appealed for anyone with any information to come forward after two of the men in the Mercedes fled on foot.
Sergeant Russell Sime, of Cheshire Police’s Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a serious collision which has resulted in the death of a 61-year-old man, and we are committed to doing all we can to establish exactly what took place.

“As part of our investigation we are keen to hear from anyone who was travelling on the M62, near to Junction 10, at the time of the incident and believes they may have witnessed the collision.
“The same goes for anyone with any CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident.
“We would also like to hear from anyone who believes that they may have seen the occupants of the Mercedes fleeing the scene on foot following the incident.”
A section of the motorway remained closed[1] for much of Saturday.
Officers have confirmed that two other men, aged 21 and 23, stayed with the Mercedes and have since both been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
But the investigation[2] to find the two men who are believed to have fled is still ongoing and Sergeant Sime and his colleagues have urged any witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward.
