M62 reopens after overnight work to repair damage from fatal crash

The M62 was closed headed eastbound yesterday due to a serious collision, which it was later revealed had lead to the fatality of a 61 year old man from The Wirral. [1]

After this, repairs were required to the barrier, but also the road itself.

As a result of the crash, diesel had spilled over the entire road for a stretch - which required the road to be relayed in entirety over a large section.

As a result, workers toiled until the early hours of this morning, Sunday April 30, where the motorway was reopened.

The collision took place at 3:45 am Saturday April 29 on the M62, with one man dying in the incident.

The crash involved a silver Skoda and grey Mercedes, with the driver of the Skoda being the man to tragically die.

Cheshire Police have released a request for information following the crash, with two men from the Mercedes having fled the scene on foot.

Two other men, aged 21 and 23, were arrested on the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Anyone with any information is urged to call 101 quoting IML 1535300.
