Emergency teams are at the scene of a car fire on the main Newport to Cowes road this afternoon (Thursday, April 27).

Fire teams from Newport Fire Station are on Newport Road near Northwood, opposite the Wight Heritage and Military Museum.

Firefighters were alerted to the fire, which involved a Mercedes convertible, at 1.23pm.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said the road is blocked in both directions.

UPDATE: The road has now been reopened.
