Man, 61, arrested and homes evacuated after reports of ‘controlled …
Residents have been evacuated from their homes following reports of “controlled chemicals” at a property in an East Yorkshire town.
Humberside Police[1] executed a warrant this morning (Tuesday, April 11) as part of a pre-planned operation in Oxford Street, Bridlington, following reports that controlled chemicals were potentially at a property on the road. A 61-year-old man has been arrested and is currently helping police with their enquiries.
A police cordon has been put in place and specialist officers are at the address along with Humberside Fire And Rescue Service[2] and East Riding Of Yorkshire Council[3]. Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) are also at the scene.
A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “As a precautionary measure, houses in the immediate area are being evacuated and EOD are attending to make an assessment of the situation. Residents are advised to leave their homes temporarily while we ensure the property, and its contents, are safe.
“A temporary shelter based at Bridlington Spa has been set up to provide basic accommodation for those affected. Residents are reminded to take essential medication with them in case the cordon has to be in place for a number of hours.”
