Man arrested on suspicion of drug offences and plotting assault

A MAN was arrested in Newport yesterday evening (Saturday) on suspicion of drug offences and conspiracy to assault another person.

At approximately 5.56pm, officers were called to the scene on Chapel Street.

They stopped a vehicle and its driver, a 23-year-old man from Cowes, was detained.

He was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to assault a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm, and two counts of drug driving.

This, a spokesperson for the force said, is in connection with an incident on Ventnor High Street earlier in the day.

The man has since been bailed but police enquiries are ongoing.
