Man dies in tragic V/Line train collision with truck in South Geelong
A man has died following a collision between a V/Line train and a truck in South Geelong.[1]
It’s believed the crash happened early on Monday morning near Barwon Terrace.

According to police, the truck was struck by a train after turning right out of a nearby side street and crossing onto the train tracks.
The truck driver received life-threatening injuries and was treated by paramedics.
The man in his late fifties died at the scene. He is yet to be identified, but is believed to have worked at a local building site.

Acting senior sergeant Fletcher Pearson said early investigations suggested the boom gates were down, and the lights were flashing at the time of the crash.
“We’ll be looking at the engineering of the intersection, we’ve got V/Line onsite doing their investigation as well, and we’ll be compiling a report for the coroner,” he said.
Pearson said the train driver was “extremely shaken”.
“It’s not a good scenario, he’s come to work, he’s doing nothing wrong, he’s driving down, and we’ve got a truck that for some reason has turned on the train tracks in front of him.”
The Geelong Line has now been suspended. Coaches are replacing trains between Waurn Ponds and Geelong.
Commuters have been advised to allow an extra 45 minutes for their journey.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to contact police.
