Man found dead in Gloucestershire named as Thomas Bates

A body which was found in the River Severn in Gloucestershire has been identified as missing man Thomas Bates, from Stourport-on-Severn. Thomas, 30, was reported missing on Tuesday, March 2 from Chepstow.

A body was found on the river shoreline[1] close to Hock Cliff[2] near Frampton-on-Severn at around 3.10pm on Saturday, April 1. The death is not being treated as suspicious[3] by police.

Gwent Police confirmed in a statement on Facebook, following formal identification, the man found was Thomas Bates. His family and the coroner have been informed.

Thomas was last seen in Tesco Superstore, Chepstow, at around 9.30pm on Thursday, March 2. Officers, who were concerned for his welfare, launched an appeal to find Thomas.

A statement from Gwent Police said: "The body of a man was found in the Gloucestershire area at around 3.10pm on Saturday 1 April. We can confirm formal identification has taken place and the man has been identified as Thomas Bates, 30, from Stourport-on-Severn.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious. His family and HM Coroner have been informed. Thank you to everyone who helped in trying to locate Thomas."
