Man in car killed after head-on collision with lorry near Mersing
MERSING: A 47-year-old man was killed in an accident involving two vehicles at KM19 of the Endau-Mersing road here.
Mersing OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said police received information about the incident involving a car and a lorry at about 3pm on Thursday (April 20).
“Investigation found that the accident occurred when the car, which was heading towards Mersing from Endau, lose control and head into oncoming traffic.
“A lorry that was in the opposite lane was unable to avoid the car, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles.
“The car driver, a 47-year-old local man, died at the scene after suffering from serious injuries on the head,” he said in a statement here.
He added that the driver of the lorry, who is also a 47-year-old local man, sustained minor injuries on his legs.
“The wife and child of the lorry driver, who is also in the vehicle during the accident, did not suffer any injuries,” he said.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, Endau Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Amir Hamzah Abdullah said that 13 firemen from the Endau and Mersing fire stations were deployed to the scene upon receiving an emergency call at 2.24pm.
“Upon arrival, we found that the driver of the car was stuck in his vehicle. We were able to take him out of the car with special tools.
“He was declared by medical officers at the scene and his body has been handed over to the police for further action.
“Meanwhile, the driver of the lorry received treatments from the medical officers at the location for his injuries,” he said.
It was learnt that the deceased was a staff at a court in Terengganu and was on his way back to his hometown in Kota Tinggi.
