Man left ‘screaming in agony’ after cycling accident

Bill Wilson was cycling to visit his daughter, Marion, at her work at Belton Livery, between Dunbar and Stenton, on Sunday morning.

He was involved in a collision with a car as he travelled along Belhaven High Street towards Brewery Lane.

Speaking on Tuesday, Marion told the Courier that her dad had been taken to hospital and was unable to sit or stand after suffering broken ribs and soft tissue damage to his shoulder, neck, back and leg.

He was allowed home from hospital later that evening.

“I got a real fright and my mum was hysterical on the phone,” she recalled.

“She was beside herself and it is her 80th birthday this weekend.

“That has all been hit on the head and we had a big family gathering on Saturday night planned with my mum’s sisters coming for a meal.

“Everything has been hit on the head now because my dad is not going to be up for that.”
