Miracle dog walks again just eight days after being struck by HGV

An American Bulldog left paralysed after being struck by a lorry has miraculously made a full recovery – despite his owners being told he was unlikely to survive. Six-year-old Caesar was hit by an HGV after being frightened by another dog.
He darted into the road and was left with a fractured neck which led to him being paralysed in his front legs. But hero vets at Willows Veterinary Centre and Referral in Solihull[1] performed a life-saving operation.
Their amazing work had Caesar walking again after just EIGHT days. Owner Nigel Smith said his wife witnessed the terrifying accident.
He said: “There was a chance he wouldn’t survive the surgery or ever recover. The surgeon was very clear in the diagnosis and explanation of the treatment. Amazingly, he’s now almost 100 per cent being back to how he used to be.”
Nigel, from Worcester,[3] praised staff at Willows for looking after his dog “tremendously”. He said they had even catered for Caesar’s anxiety towards other dogs, adding: “The team at Willows do incredible things that would not normally seem possible.”
Victoria Indjova, one of the vets who performed Caesar’s operation, described him as the “most determined dog" they had ever seen. She said: “Only eight days after surgery Caesar was walking without any support from the hoist.
"Just three months later, Caesar has made a complete recovery and is back to running around his favourite field. It was a real team effort involving our neurology specialists, dedicated neurology nurses, physiotherapists, nurses and veterinary care assistants.”
