Following the reported case of a fatal road crash between an 18 seater bus and a tipper lorry at Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway Enugu State at about 8.30pm on 8th April 2023, a team of NEMA South East Zone led by the Ag. Zonal Coordinator Ngozi Echeazu visited the scene of the incident on Monday 10th April at about 2.30pm for on the spot assessment.
The incident which took place prisicely at Ituku in Awgu LGA of Enugu state claimed several lives. As at the time of the visit, the 18 seater bus has been removed. However, the team only met the burnt tipper with cement along the highway. Information gathered from the Army personnel at check point close to the scene revealed that evidence of 10 persons in the 18 seater bus were burnt beyond recognition and the only survival was the tipper driver who was rushed to the hospital. According to them it was a head-on collision between a tipper which was loaded with bags of cement and a bus with passengers.
The team thereafter visited the FRSC and Police stations close to the scene of the incident for more information but could not get any concrete information due to the lock down in the state every Monday.
