One person in hospital after six-vehicle collision on the A5
One person is in hospital following a six-vehicle collision[1] on the A5 in Leicestershire earlier today, (Wednesday, April 12). The crash happened shortly after 11.30am on the A5 in the village of Wibtoft, near Lutterworth[2], according to police.
Teams from Leicestershire Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service[3] (Emas) and the air ambulance were sent to the scene. A section of the A5 between the junctions of High Cross Road and Penn Lane was closed to traffic in both directions to allow 999 crews to work in safety.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area for more than an hour, with traffic impacted up to nearby Magna Park. Police and ambulance teams have confirmed one person was injured during the incident.
A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police[5] said: “We received a call at 11.36am to a collision on the A5 near Wibtoft. It involved six vehicles and saw police close off the road in both directions. Police were assisted by crews from East Midlands Ambulance Service and the air ambulance.”
An Emas spokesman confirmed it deployed a number of teams to the scene, saying a paramedic in a ‘fast response car’ and an ambulance were dispatched. He added that the air ambulance, which also attended, was not required for transport of the patient.
Emas added that the person was taken to Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital with injuries that police said were not believed to be life-threatening. The A5 reopened in both directions by 1pm.
