Pedestrian, 43, dies after being hit by HGV on M6 in Staffordshire
A pedestrian has died after being struck by an HGV on the M6 in Staffordshire in the middle of the night. Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a 43-year-old man, from the Stafford area, was confirmed dead at the scene.
Emergency services had been called to the southbound carriageway at junction 13 for Stafford[1] after the collision with the lorry[2] shortly before 3.40am on Saturday (April 8).
The motorway was closed in both directions while officers completed their initial inquiries. Staffordshire Police confirmed the driver of the HGV stayed in the area following the collision and is assisting officers with their investigation.
A spokesman said: “We are appealing for witnesses after a man died following a collision on the motorway in Stafford. We attended the scene alongside our colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service.
“Sadly, the pedestrian, a 43-year-old local man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are currently being supported by specially-trained officers at this difficult time.
“We are keen to speak to any witnesses or those who may have dashcam footage of the area at the time of the collision or saw the pedestrian in the area prior to the incident.”
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a collision between a lorry and pedestrian on the M6 southbound, near to junction 13, at 3.42am on Saturday.
“Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor attended the scene. On arrival we discovered the pedestrian, a man, had suffered serious injuries in the incident. Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene. The driver of the lorry, a man, was assessed and discharged at the scene.”
