Pedestrian seriously injured in collision with lorry on A47

A man has been seriously injured[1] following a collision on the A47 at Uppingham. The incident involved a pedestrian and a lorry, leaving the road closed for much of the day.

The collision happened at around 6.54am on Thursday (April 13) when police were called to the A47 at Uppingham in Rutland. East Midlands Ambulance Service[2] was also in attendance where it found the pedestrian, a man in his 50s, seriously injured.

He has been taken to hospital where he remains. No one else was reported as injured as a result of the collision.

Investigations into the collision are ongoing. The A47[4] between Leicester Road and the roundabout junction for Uppingham and Ayston was shut for several hours but has since reopened to the public.

Detective Sergeant Lisa Wood, from Leicestershire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A man remains in hospital with serious injuries and support is being provided to his family. We are continuing to carry out full enquiries to establish what has happened and we are appealing to anyone with any information, who has not yet made contact, to get in touch.

“Did you see the pedestrian or the vehicle prior to the collision or did you witness the incident? Or do you have any dashcam footage from the area this morning which could help our enquiries?

Anyone with information should call Leicestershire Police[5] on 101, quoting incident number 23*220635. Alternatively, report information on the force’s website.
