Person dies after being hit by train near Essex railway station
A person has died after being hit by a train near an Essex railway station. British Transport Police (BTP) have said they were called to Harlow Mill station at 2.14pm after they received reports of a casualty on the tracks.
They confirmed paramedics also attended, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers from BTP are now working to identify the person and inform their family.
They are not treating the incident as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner. Trains through Essex have been halted as a result of the incident.
The Stansted Express, which conveys passengers between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport, has been cancelled until around 5pm. It is also affecting trains via Bishops Stortford, as well as trains to Cambridge and Ely, with trains cancelled or partially suspended until 6.20pm.
The full statement from BTP says: “Officers were called to Harlow Mill station at 2.14pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended however sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
