Person freed as fire crews cut roof off car following smash

Fire crews cut off the roof of a vehicle to free a trapped person following a three-vehicle crash.

Emergency services were called to Yarm Road, in Stockton, after reports of a crash involving three vehicles. Cleveland Police[1] closed off the major road in both directions to traffic, urging motorists to avoid the area, while the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) and Cleveland Fire Brigade[2] descended on the scene.

Images taken from the scene show the crumpled aftermath of the collision, with two vehicles being recovered from the scene while police guarded the road. NEAS, which sent a rapid response paramedic and a double-crewed ambulance to the incident, confirmed that one person was taken to hospital.

Traffic was extremely slow around the area while emergency services dealt with the incident, but returned to normal just before 5pm.

One eyewitness told Teesside Live that two of the cars involved in the crash were stationary and claimed that the person in the moving car said they “couldn’t stop.” However, this has not yet been confirmed by authorities.
