Plans for 110 new homes near Lymington approved by New Forest …
Plans have been approved to build 110 new homes near Lymington, which in the past has been named the best place to live in Hampshire. The site earmarked for development by Bargate Homes lies to the south of the A337/Milford Road, on the south western edge of Pennington.
The plans were first submitted to New Forest District Council[1] in 2020, however, they were amended in March 2022 after the council raised initial concerns that the development would have resulted in a significant loss of important habitat in the area. According to the Case Officer’s Report, the amendments mean more of this habitat will be retained.
Before the plans were amended in 2022, Lymington and Pennington Town Council raised concerns regarding vehicle access to the A337, citing it as “dangerously inadequate”. Despite the Officer’s Report stating that amendments were made to proposed access arrangements from the A337, the council continued to recommend the plans be refused before eventual approval.
The town council was not the only interested party that expressed concerns. Public comments submitted outlined fears regarding the “impact on wildlife” and the “loss of irreplaceable habitat”.
The A337, from which the new homes will be accessed, provides a direct route to Lymington[3] high street. Lymington was named the best place to live in Hampshire by readers of Muddy Stilettos[4] in 2022. However, it did lose its crown to Winchester this year – the full story is available above.
Lymington has already been earmarked for development in 2023. As reported by HampshireLive[5], plans for 82 new homes off Lower Pennington Lane were put forward at the start of the year.
