Police block off road after Mercedes crash as car bumper ripped off

Police blocked off a road in Openshaw on Wednesday afternoon (April 12) after a collision between two cars that saw a damaged bumper ripped off.

Officers and paramedics were called to Ogden Lane shortly after 1pm to reports of the road traffic collision involving a Mercedes and Vauxhall. All drivers and passengers were checked over following the crash.

Pictures taken from the scene show a number of police vehicles in attendance with the bumper from one of the vehicles completely torn off and left on the pavement.

No arrests have been made in relation to the incident and the nature of injuries sustained have not been confirmed, but the North West Ambulance Service have been approached for more details.

Buses diverted temporarily as emergency services worked at the scene. The crash happened at the junction with Stanley Street.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 1:10pm today (Wednesday 12 April 2023), officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles at the junction of Ogden Lane and Stanley Street in Openshaw.

“Emergency services attended the scene and the drivers and passengers of both vehicles were seen to by medical professionals. No arrests were made and the scene is now closed.”
