PUNE: Three youngsters, including a policeman’s son, were arrested on the charge of robbing Rs14,500 fom a truck driver after beating him as well as his cleaner up on Katraj-Dehu Road bypass in Hinjewadi at around 11.45am on Friday.The truck driver, Kadar Gulab Shaikh (29) of Karad, lodged a complaint of robbery and assault with the Hinjewadi police against the youths. The arrested trio have been identified as Prathmesh Rakesh Hadke (19) and Vaibhav Milind Nigde (19) from Guruwar Peth, and Prathmesh Milind Girme (19) of the Swargate Police Colony. The police are searching for their accomplice.According to the Hinjewadi police, the truck was heading towards Mumbai from Satara.The youngsters were travelling in the same direction from Pune in their SUV.The arrested youths and their accomplice alleged that the truck had brushed against their SUV and scratched it, so they chased and intercepted it on the bypass.They then demanded money from the truck driver for the SUV’s repair.According to the FIR, Shaikh refused to pay them, claiming that his vehicle had not touched the SUV.Irked over the refusal, the four youths assaulted Shaikh and the truck’s cleaner with wooden sticks. They also threatened the duo with dire consequences if they did not pay them the repair cost.Senior inspector Vivek Muglikar of the Hinjewadi police said, “The youngsters first robbed Rs4,500 of the truck driver and then forced him to withdraw Rs10,000 from a nearby ATM kiosk.”He said, “We verified the claim of the arrested youths and found that the truck had indeed brushed against the SUV. But the youngsters took the law into their hands and robbed the truck driver.”
