Railway bridge hit by HGV in Scorrier, Cornwall: road closed

Police are at the scene of the incident, in the Radnor Road area of Scorrier, near to the A30. 

A section of the railway bridge has been damaged, with debris having fallen and now covering the road. 

There also appears to be debris left from the lorry, and part of the fluorescent warning sign across the top of the bridge has come down. 

Trains are not currently affected at this time (8pm Saturday).

Devon and Cornwall Police’s Roads Policing Team has reported: “We are currently dealing with a railway bridge vs HGV strike in the Radnor Road area of Scorrier.

“Partial road closure in place whilst we complete enquiries. No injuries reported.

“Thank you got your patience.”

Traffic monitoring system INRIX is also reporting the incident.

It says: “A3047 both ways closed due to accident, a lorry involved from B3298 to A30 (Scorrier). Traffic is coping well.

“A lorry has struck a railway bridge. Trains running through the section are currently not affected.”

There is no mention of any delays or changes to the schedule on the Great Western Railway website at this time.
