Road will remain closed for a 'significant time'

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: "The A50 is now closed in both directions between Toyota Island and Chellaston.

"Emergency services were called to reports of a serious collision on the road, roughly half way between Toyota and the exit for Chellaston, at about 10.15am today.

"Both sides are now closed from Toyota Island to Chellaston and will remain closed for a significant time.

"The Arleston Lane bridge from Sinfin over the A50 is also closed.

"Motorists should avoid the area. We will update our social media channels when the road reopens."
