Several flood alerts issued across Oxfordshire after intense rainfall
Several flood alerts have been issued across Oxfordshire following a period of intense rainfall. The Environment Agency has told residents in these affected areas to be prepared as flooding is possible.
The more severe flood warnings – where flooding is expected – are in place in some places near the county such as Chippenham and Wokingham. Oxford, Abingdon and other areas surrounding the River Thames have been issued flood alerts.
Alerts have also been put in place in Witney as levels are rising in the River Windrush, while Thame and Carterton could also be affected. The alert in place for Oxford reads: “Flooding is expected in this area. This means properties are at risk of flooding.
“Please take action to protect yourself and your property and monitor local weather and river conditions. Avoid contact with, walking or driving through flood water. Consider activating any property flood protection products you may have.”
People should sign up for flood warnings on the GOV.UK to get the latest information, or access the check for flooding service online.[2]
