South London man dies after fire tears through a house in the early …

A man has died after a fire ripped through a South London house in the early hours of the morning on Friday (April 21). The man was one of two people rushed to hospital after the blaze broke out on Buckleigh Road in Streatham as a further five people left the building before the London Fire Brigade[1] arrived.

Firefighters were called to the scene at just after midnight on April 21 and the London Fire Brigade have confirmed today (Monday, April 24) that the man has sadly died after he was taken to hospital. A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Half of a ground-floor flat in a converted, two-storey house was damaged by the fire. Firefighters rescued a man from the ground-floor.

“He was taken to hospital alongside another person, where he sadly later died. A further five people left the building before the Brigade arrived. The cause of the fire is under investigation.”

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters rushed the the scene and rescued two people from the building but one man has sadly been pronounced dead since the blaze. A spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police[3], told MyLondon on Friday[4]: “The Streatham fire hasn’t been flagged to us as something that’s being treated as suspicious.”
