The incident took place at around 11.30pm when the victim, identified as Sabbir Khan, was on his way to an eatery on the main carriageway, police said.
Javed Khan, the elder brother of the victim, said Sabbir was a driver with a private transport company in Bilaspur and had gone to have dinner when he met with the accident. “My brother was near the old Bilaspur toll plaza and was hardly 50 metres away from the eatery when he was hit by the speeding car. He fell on the road and suffered severe head injuries,” he said.
The complainant, in the first information report (FIR), said that his brother was rushed to a nearby hospital by bystanders, but was declared dead by the doctors.
Preet Pal Sangwan, assistant commissioner of police (crime), said they are yet to identify the car’s registration number. “We have deployed a team to scan CCTV footage of four areas,” he said.
An FIR under Section 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the unidentified suspect at Bilaspur police station on Friday, police said.
Bilaspur crossing is one of the blackspots — a spot where accidents are frequent — identified by the Gurugram district administration. In 2022, 20 accidents were reported from the spot and 14 accidents have been reported this year so far.
Gurugram deputy commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said to improve commuting experience and ensure safety of road users, particularly motorists, the civic agencies will develop model roads across the city and fix all blackspots. “The focus will also be on road engineering and other safety measures,” he said.
On March 17, a 28-year-old man died after coming under a truck near Bilaspur crossing on the National Highway (NH-48) when he was on his way to Manesar from Rewari.
