Three-car smash shuts two lanes of M6 near Stafford
A three-car smash closed two lanes of the M6 today. A stretch of the southbound carriageway was shut following the collision near Stafford[1].
Police, paramedics and traffic officers were dispatched to the scene. The incident, which was reported just after 2pm, has since been cleared.
But drivers are being warned that they could still face delays and miles of tailbacks. National Highways West Midlands said at the time: “M6 southbound between J14 and J13 near Stafford.
“Two lanes (of four) closed due to a three-car collision. Central Motorway Police Group, West Midlands Ambulance Service and our traffic officers on scene.
“30 minute delay and four miles of congestion. Allow extra time if heading that way.” All lanes are now reopen but delays remain, National Highways added.
Traffic monitoring system Inrix said there is also six miles of stop-start traffic on the M6 southbound between junction 10a (M54 interchange) and junction 9 for Wednesbury. The travel time is this area is currently 20 minutes.
It comes after a collision shut part of the M6[3] northbound ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers home game against Chelsea FC on Saturday. Ongoing roadworks near to junction 10 of the M6 are also said to be in their ‘final stages’[4].
