Volvo is leading the way in heavy duty truck sales after a bumper month of deliveries in March
Volvo has dominated the heavy truck sales results for Australia for March 2023
Australia’s heavy duty truck market has clocked up more than 3615 sales for the year to date to March 31, up about 5 per cent overall on the same time last year.
The latest sales results figures released today (April 5) by the Truck Industry Council, show Volvo hitting 305 sales in the heavy duty category, followed by Kenworth with 300 sales, Isuzu with 192, Scania with 93, Mercedes-Benz and Mack with 88 each.
Rounding out the top 10 brands for this category are Hino (84 sales), UD Trucks (74 sales), DAF (65 trucks) and Fuso (60).
For the month of March a total of 1447 heavy duty trucks were delivered to customers.
The medium duty sector was dominated by Isuzu which sold 368 trucks in March, contributing to a year to date sales result of 933 vehicles delivered since January 1 this year. Isuzu’s year to date results are up 53.6 per cent on 2022 results for the same period.
The second biggest seller in the medium duty category was Hino, with 178 vehicles delivered, followed by Fuso (134), Iveco (15), UD Trucks (14), Hyundai (8), Volvo (3), Mercedes-Benz (3), DAF (2) and MAN (1).

It was a similar result in the light duty category for the brands, with Isuzu reporting a 46.1 per cent increase on its March 2022 results by delivering 696 trucks for the month. Year to date the brand has sold 1792 light duty vehicles – up 47.4 per cent on the same time last year.
The battle for second and third spots in the light duty category for March figures came down to one vehicle with Fuso hitting 271 sales and Hino 270. On a year-to-date basis, Fuso’s 683 sales are well ahead of Hino’s 615.
Iveco’s 115 sales for March put it into fourth place in the brand race, with Fiat (58), Mercedes-Benz (56), Hyundai (21), Volkswagen (14), Renault (6) and Ford (3) rounding out the top 10.
Overall, across the heavy duty, medium duty and light duty truck sales results, 9225 trucks have been delivered so far for 2023.
