Traffic monitoring equipment will cover 200 spots around Lincoln
Video equipment will be placed at 200 locations around Lincoln, with the aim of monitoring traffic flows in and around the city. County council equipment, including cameras to record traffic, will gather data in light of ongoing development and ahead of the construction of the North Hykeham Relief Road.
The aim is to reduce delays and congestion in the centre. Cllr Richard Davies, the executive member for highways at Lincolnshire County Council said the authority needs to develop a better understanding of traffic patterns in the area.
He said: “By collecting up-to-date traffic flow and journey time statistics, using a variety of data-gathering tools, we can use the information to help reduce delays and congestion in the town centre. Once completed, the new traffic model will also be used in an updated version of Lincoln’s transport strategy, which will look at how we can improve travel and transport in and around the area over the coming years.”
Poll: What’s the worst road for potholes?[1]
The two-week study began on Monday, April 17. The cameras and equipment will be in place until Sunday, April 30.
Video equipment has also been put up at a further 15 locations to observe how much public transport is being used. Once the information has been collected, analysts will review the data.
It will then be incorporated into a new traffic model for the city, that will feed into an updated version of the Lincoln Transport Strategy in the coming years. Work on the North Hykeham Relief Road is expected to begin in 2025.
