Troopers: Driver killed after truck runs off York County highway

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — Troopers are investigating a single-vehicle deadly crash that happened on Monday.

Troopers were called around 9 p.m. to Highway 49 north of York, near Saddle Drive. It was there that they found a 1988 Chevrolet pickup truck.

Its driver, a 32-year-old from York, died at the scene, highway patrol said. The driver’s identity has not been released.

Investigators said the truck was heading north on Highway 49 when it ran off the road to the right, overcorrected, and then ran off the road to the left. The truck hit an embankment and flipped, troopers said.

It’s unclear what led up to the driver swerving.

The South Carolina highway patrol is investigating.

No further information was released.
