There was a huge queue outside Wendy’s[1] before the doors had even opened – so we thought we needed to see if the food lived up to the hype.

Lincolnshire Live[2] reporter Oliver Castle and photographer James Turner tried some free burgers as part of Wendy’s opening event at 11am in the High Street, Lincoln on Wednesday, April 12. Situated just opposite Speaker’s Corner, the opening attracted a vibrant atmosphere with a long queue of people attending.

People were even queueing more than half an hour before the official opening. Staff were there to greet us and explained the menu well.

We tried a beef burger and a chicken burger and I have to say, they were faultless. The crispy chicken was wet nicely with succulent lettuce, tomatoes and mayonnaise.

The beef burger was like no other burger I had ever eaten before. It had two layers of beef, together with crispy, good quality bacon in between them, oozing with melted cheese and topped with Wendy’s very own mix of mayo and ketchup, all inside a soft, white bun. We also had a portion of fries, which were exceptionally flavoursome, with a 7up drink.

After tucking into all this, staff then greeted us with Wendy’s signature chocolate frostie – a combination between a thick milkshake and frozen yogurt.

But it was not just burgers you could choose from. A staff member said they do much more than that, with salads, chilli con carne and jacket potatoes – something to suit everyone.

This is the first Wendy’s in Lincolnshire, but the burger chain plan to open more across Lincolnshire in the years to come.

I would honestly say a Wendy’s burger would easily beat a McDonald’s burger for me any day of the week. I will definitely be going back again soon.
