West Midlands cop trial live as Iftikhar Ali accused of using network …

A West Midlands Police officer has gone on trial accused of misconduct in a public office among other offences. Serving cop Iftikhar Ali, aged 43, from Solihull[1], has been charged with multiple counts of misconduct in a public office, multiple data protection breaches and perverting the course of justice.

Two other men also stand accused. Azhar Mahmood, aged 37, and Waheed Mohammed, 33, both from Birmingham, face numerous counts of aiding and abetting misconduct in a public office. Mohammed is also charged with perverting the course of justice.

The trial is due to open at Birmingham Crown Court[2] today, Monday. Judge Avik Mukherjee presides over the case. James Curtis prosecutes.
