When temperatures will be ‘above average’ according to new Met …

The Easter bank holiday weekend is always the first big test for the UK’s wonderfully unpredictable weather. Thankfully, this year saw temperatures of up to 17C in some parts of the country on Easter Sunday, providing a boost to weather-dependent businesses.

The next bank holiday falls on Monday, May 8, before the coronation of King Charles III gives us an extra bank holiday a week later. May’s weather is usually a little more settled than April’s and we can expect daily highs of around 15C.

But as we know, Spring weather always has the potential to throw in a few curveballs. It wouldn’t be surprising for coronation street parties to be held amid sizzling summer-like conditions, nor would it be for them to be washed out.

In terms of what we can expect a little further down the track, the Met Office’s long-range forecast is our best bet at finding out what could be on the horizon over the coming weeks. The forecast provides an indication of how the weather might change, or be different from normal for the whole UK over a set period of time.

The long-range forecast now covers the period up to Tuesday, May 9, so we can now begin to see how the coronation weekend might pan out in terms of weather. At the moment, early May looks like a bit of a mixed bag.

Predicting the period between Tuesday, April 25 and Tuesday, May 9, the forecast says: “Confidence in the forecast is fairly low for the end of April and early May.

“In general, there is a greater chance of more settled weather dominating during this period, maintaining the likelihood of morning fog patches and late season night frosts. However, there is also a chance of seeing some unsettled or changeable spells of weather too. Temperatures are most likely to be above average overall for the time of year.”
