A decision to check a scratch-off ticket in the store after using it gave new meaning to the term “instant winner”.

Robert Dikan, a truck driver from Windsor, said he had been playing the lottery regularly for three months. One day, he purchased a $10 Instant Jackpot Multiplier scratch-off game.

“I scratched my ticket in the store and checked it using the OLG App,” said Dikan when he recently picked up his prize at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “When $1-million popped up on my screen, I couldn’t believe it.”

The $1-million was the game’s top prize. Dikan immediately contacted his common-law partner and said she was “bewildered” by the windfall.

He plans to use the money to pay off some bills, buy a new truck, and travel.

Dikan purchased his winning ticket at the Busy Bee Convenience Store on Tecumseh Road in Windsor.
