Woman, 85, rescued after falling down ravine in Darwen woods

An elderly pensioner was rescued after ‘falling down a ravine’ in Darwen.

The incident took place in the Sunnyhurst woods area on Tuesday afternoon (April 18). The 85-year-old woman was left with back pain and rescuers from Bolton Mountain Rescue Team and North West Ambulance Service attended the scene.

The woman was loaded onto a mountain rescue stretcher. The stretcher was then lowered by rope to the track below from where the casualty was conveyed to a waiting ambulance.

A spokesperson for Bolton Mountain Rescue Team said: “The team were requested to assist North West Ambulance Service[1] NHS[2] Trust this afternoon with the extraction of an 85-year-old female with back pain who had fallen down a ravine in the Sunnyhurst woods area of Darwen[3].

“The team deployed three team vehicles and twelve team members who were able to load the casualty onto a mountain rescue stretcher. The stretcher was then lowered by rope to the track below from where the casualty was conveyed to a waiting ambulance.

“We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.”
