Woman pushing pram suffers ‘life-changing head injury’ in crash
Officers from Dorset Police[1] have asked for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward after a crash in which a woman suffered a “life-changing head injury” in Bournemouth[2] this morning (April 11).
The crash happened at around 9am in the Redhill Park area[3] of the city. It involved a Toyota RAV4 and a female pedestrian in her 30s, who was pushing a pram at the time of the collision.
The woman was taken to hospital with a life-threatening head injury. Officers also confirmed that the baby was also taken to hospital, but as a precaution since it did not sustain any injuries.
Officers went on to state that the driver of the the car, a 38-year-old man from the New Milton area in Hampshire, is alleged to have not stopped at the scene of the crash, and after police followed up on enquiries they confirmed that he has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences.
A road closure was in place at the scene for some time[5], in order to allow emergency services to safely deal with the incident. Redhill Avenue was closed off, and a cordon had been set up around the the play park area.
A witness from the scene added that two air ambulances were seen[6] in the Redhill Park area in Moordown, along with multiple police cars and ambulances.
Police Sergeant Richard Stroud, of the road traffic unit, said: “We are investigating the circumstances of this collision and I am appealing to anyone who was travelling in the area at the time and either witnessed the collision or captured it on dashcam to please contact Dorset Police.
“I would like to thank motorists for their patience while the road closure was in place so we could carry out our investigation.”
