Bomb threat suspect wanted for same offense in Virginia: Mayfield Heights Police Blotter
MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio
Bomb threats: Landerbrook Drive
A bomb threat came in to a University Hospitals call center at an office building May 22, but it was not specific as to whether it was meant for that building or another one the call company manages.
Officers thoroughly searched the building and determined that there was no threat.
Call center employees said they often get disgruntled calls because they deal with pain management patients.
Upon investigation, the suspect was identified as a woman, 33, who was also suspected of calling in bomb threats at a Virginia college and high school. She is believed to have last been living in Cleveland, but has strong ties to Virginia.
A warrant for inducing panic has been entered for her arrest.
Theft: Golden Gate Boulevard
A woman reported May 18 that she believed somebody had stolen her phone case with wallet and phone while she was shopping at Costco.
She believed somebody took it from her purse in her cart while she was distracted by a woman who engaged her in conversation.
Shortly after the incident, she received an alert that one of her credit cards been declined for a $1,294 purchase at the Apple store in Woodmere. The following day, one of her other credit cards was used to make the purchase at the store.
Police are investigating.
Extortion: Mayfield Road
A man said May 21 that he was concerned that his brother was being taken advantage of by an unknown man to whom he had been giving money to invest in a dog training business.
He said his brother has limited physical mobility due to a car accident when he was a teenager and that others have taken advantage of him in the past.
Officers visited the brother at his apartment. He said he gives the man in question $3,000 a month because the man brings him food and sends women to his home for minor sexual favors.
He said the man has told him that if he does not give him money, he will go to the police and report that he had sexually assaulted the women because he has recorded video of their visits.
He did not believe he was being taken advantage of and did not want to pursue charges.
The following day, officers spoke to the suspect, a 32-year-old Euclid man. He maintained that he only helps because he feels sorry for the brother. He said the brother has only given him money to buy groceries and for doing things around the apartment and that he has never recorded the man’s interactions with any women.
Officers strongly advised him to have no further contact with the brother.
Impaired driving: Interstate 271
A Cleveland woman, 32, was arrested for OVI after officers stopped her vehicle for erratic driving around 2:15 a.m. May 21.
She said she had been getting drunk at a bar with some friends.
It was a felony offense because she had four previous OVI convictions.
Assault: Landerhaven Drive
A girl, 16, reported from Hillcrest Hospital May 20 that she had been assaulted in the parking lot of the Staybridge Suites while attending an after-prom party in the early morning hours.
Her mother chose not to pursue the matter because the girl said she did not know who assaulted her or who dropped her off at the ER. She was not aware of the incident until contacted by the hospital staff.
Fraud: Golden Gate Boulevard
A resident reported May 22 that his ex-fiancée had made a fraudulent charge for $130 at Costco through Instacart.
He said they do not live together, never shared a bank account and do not communicate because he has her number blocked.
The incident is under investigation.
Theft: SOM Center Road
A Cleveland Heights man, 41, was cited May 22 for theft at Target after he concealed $415 worth of merchandise in a backpack he had taken from the store.
Loss prevention had been watching him because of past incidents at several Target locations.
Burglary: Mayfield Road
A man reported May 22 that a gun and seven pairs of Air Jordan shoes were missing from his apartment.
He said he had not been at the apartment for 12 days because he failed to pay his electricity bill, so he was staying at his mother’s home. He said nobody knew this nor had another set of keys.
Officers did not find any signs of forced entry at the Gates Mills Place apartment and found it in disarray. No suspects were identified.
Violation of protection order: Hawthorne Drive
A woman said May 21 that she believed a man against whom she has a protection order had created a fake account and messaged her through a dating app for Hungarians.
The messages were translated and showed that the man was advising the woman to drop charges against him or he would release private photos of her to her place of work.
Charges were subsequently filed against the Texas man, 46, for menacing by stalking and violation of a protection order.
Disturbance: Commonwealth Avenue
A caller said May 24 that a man had stopped his vehicle in front of a neighbor’s home, walked up to the homeowner and punched him in the face.
Officers spoke to the homeowner, who did not report the incident. He said he had yelled at the man to slow down while he was driving. He refused to file a report.
Suspicion: Mayfield Ridge Road
Officers responded May 21 to a report of three youths rolling constructions barrels in the roadway near Mayfield Road. They found the barrels where they should be and did not locate the suspects.
Disturbance: Fairhaven Road
A resident said May 23 that her mail carrier had walked through her flower bed. When she asked her not to do so, the woman left and did not deliver her mail.
Responding officers learned that the mail carrier was new to the route and did not know she was to avoid walking in a part of the resident’s yard.
Her supervisor was made aware of the incident and the resident’s mail was delivered.
